The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a new two-year, $2 million contract with defenceman Jake Muzzin. Muzzin, 23, appeared in 45 games for the Kings last season, recording 16 points and 35 penalty minutes. Among NHL rookie defencemen he ranked second in goals, tied for fifth in assists, tied for third in points, first in plus-minus (+16, second overall among rookies), tied for third in power play goals (three), fifth in shots (77) and fifth in hits (70). Muzzin was named the NHLs Rookie of the Month for March and was selected as the Kings Best Newcomer (Mark Bavis Memorial Award). Muzzin also played in 17 of the Kings 18 postseason games, recording three assists and six penalty minutes. Muzzin was signed by the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on Jan. 4, 2010.
