PORTLAND, Ore. Chris Carpenter Jersey . -- Thailands Pornanong Phatlum shot an 8-under 64 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead over Lexi Thompson after the first round of the Safeway Classic. The 23-year-old Phatlum, winless in five seasons on the LPGA Tour, had 10 birdies and two bogeys in her afternoon round at rain-softened Columbia Edgewater. The start of play was delayed an hour, and players were allowed to lift, clean and place their golf balls because of the wet conditions. "Putting was so good," said Phatlum, the winner of the unofficial LPGA Brazil Cup in 2012. "I changed putter for this week and feeling very good. And I made many birdies today, like 10 birdies today. ... I just try my best and Im feeling very good with the course. I like the course, very nice." The 18-year-old Thompson eagled the par-5 seventh hole -- her 16th hole of the day -- and had five birdies in her bogey-free morning round. She won the 2011 Navistar LPGA Classic for her lone tour title. "I would say just my iron shots into the green," Thompson said about her strongest play Thursday. "I hit a lot of good ones and I played the par 5s 4 under, so I took advantage of those. Overall, Ive just been working on the consistency of my game and working on tightening my shots up." Christie Kerr, the winner in 2008 the last time the event was played at Columbia Edgewater, was at 66 along with Lizette Salas and Germanys Sandra Gal. Second-ranked Stacy Lewis, returning to play after withdrawing from the Canadian Womens Open last week because of illness, opened with a 67. She won the Womens British Open on Aug. 4 at St. Andrews and had consecutive early season victories in Singapore and Phoenix. "I felt great," said Lewis, who withdrew after the first round in Canada. "I felt like a different person out there from last week. Just being focused and I knew what my game plan was. I felt great out there." Hall of Famers Juli Inkster and Se Ri Pak also were in the large group at 67 that included Michelle Wie, Yani Tseng and Ai Miyazato. The 53-year-old Inkster won the last of her 31 tour titles in 2006. "Just iron play was good," Wie said. "Just put in a lot of close shots. Didnt really take advantage of par 5s, which I kind of want to tomorrow. It was a good day. It was consistent." Natalie Gulbis had a hole-in-one on the second hole and finished with a 68. She used a 6-iron on the 166-yard hole, with the ball bouncing once and falling in. She has seven aces in competition and 14 overall. Suzann Pettersen, the 2011 winner, also shot 68. Defending champion Mika Miyazato opened with a 71. A 72-hole event for the time, the tournament is back at Columbia Edgewater after four years at Pumpkin Ridge. Columbia Edgewater also was the tournament site from 1990-2008. Top-ranked Inbee Park withdrew Tuesday because of flu-like symptoms. Paula Creamer pulled out Thursday morning, citing personal reasons. Here is a classic match-up between The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan: 3) Golf: The game known simply as “Golf”, which would later become “Mario Golf”. Not much to say other than that this game was awesome. 4) Nintendo Baseball: I remember playing this game frequently and because of how slowly the ball moved, it would take about 90 minutes to complete nine innings. 5) NBA Jam Tournament Edition: The graphics for Game Boy continued to improve, but playing a basketball game between the Celtics and the Lakers with black and white jerseys completely diminished the experience. 6) Madden 96: Just like in the present day, Madden football was the class of the NFL games for the Game Boy. The biggest issue with this game is that they didnt yet have the NFL license, so no team logos or player names. 7) Riddick Bowe Boxing: Punch Out! never came out for Game Boy, so we had Riddick Bowe boxing, which was actually pretty violent. 8) Pit Fighter: In the days before mainstream Mixed Martial Arts, there was Pit Fighter, an uber-violent game that came out in the arcade and was ported to Game Boy. 9) Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball: This was THE baseball game for Game Boy. Had great graphics and gameplay and the most popular spokesperson in baseball. 10) Tecmo Bowl: Nowhere near as good as the NES version, but still fun, especially with the bodies inexplicably flying everywhere. 11) Tennis: In my opinion, the most fun sports game for Game Boy. Mario was the line judge and he made sure the game was played fairly. 12) FIFA: Road to the World Cup: This game was excellent for its time and had great graphics with fast gameplay. 13) Jordan vs Bird: This game was absolutely awful. Yadier Molina Cardinals Jersey. Just the worst. 14) Bo Jackson Hit and Run: This game contained both a baseball game and football game. How clever! The problem is that the baseball game was good and the football game may have been the worst game ever. 15) NBA Live 96: Every time someone dribbles the ball, the game makes an offensive noise. 16) Nintendo World Cup: They took River City Ransom and made it into a soccer game. I approve! 17) PGA Tour 96: Someone should show this to Brad Faxon. I bet that hed feel incredibly old. 18) Skate or Die – Bad ‘N Rad: This game was a total cult classic among skateboarders and non-skateboarders alike. 19) Super RC Pro Am: If you could get past the horrible braking noise, this game was quite enjoyable. 20) WCW Main Event: Like WCW itself, this game was much inferior to the WWF product. 21) George Foremans KO Boxing: This game has been considered one of the worst fighting games ever, but it was tolerable. Riddick Bowe Boxing was better. Although its an improvement over Foreman for Real, which was hysterically bad (see below). 22) Bases Loaded: This was another really good baseball game, especially considering how early into Game Boys existence it came to be. 23) Itchy & Scratchy in Miniature Golf Madness: This is the most insane golf game ever made. You play as Scratchy and try to avoid violent Itchy characters while golfing to nowhere in particular. 24) Jimmy Connors Tennis: Another great tennis game for Game Boy. The Game Boy could have been much more successful if it only released tennis games. 25) Jeopardy Sports Edition: This game features really hard sports questions with not a lot of time to answer them. Bonus) NHL 96: They tried to make this as good as the Sega Genesis versions, but werent able to capture the magic. Happy Anniversary Game Boy!
