New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Justin Forsetts career night helped propel the Baltimore Ravens to a 34-27 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday. Forsett finished with a career-high 182 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries for the Ravens (7-4), who moved into a three-way tie for second place in the AFC North behind the Bengals (7-3-1). Joe Flacco threw for 243 yards and a touchdown on 18-of-24 passing, Steve Smith made four catches for 89 yards and a touchdown and Torrey Smith hauled in five passes for 98 yards in the win. That was a really special win, Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh said. You are going to have to win a lot of games to make the playoffs in our conference. Drew Brees completed 35 of his 45 passes for 420 yards with three scores and an interception, and Jimmy Graham had two touchdowns to go with 47 yards on six catches for the Saints (4-7), who went 0-3 on a homestand for just the third time in franchise history (1967, 1997). On both sides of the ball right now, we arent doing enough to get the job done, said Brees. We just need a win. Winning cures a lot of things. Despite the loss, New Orleans is tied for first with Atlanta in the underwhelming NFC South. It is the first time in NFL history that a division leader is three games under .500. Trailing 17-14 at halftime, the Ravens took control with 13 straight points. After Justin Tuckers 31-yard field goal tied the game on Baltimores initial drive of the third quarter, Will Hill stepped in front of a pass intended for Graham, picking off Brees and taking the ball back for a 44-yard touchdown and a 24-17 Ravens lead with five minutes to play in the third. Tucker booted a 55-yard field goal to increase Baltimores advantage to 27-17 early in the fourth. Shayne Graham split the uprights from 34 yards out on New Orleans next possession. Forsett provided breathing room for Baltimore after emerging through a hole on the left side and taking the ball 20 yards for a 34-20 lead with 2:53 to play. Graham made a 2-yard leaping score just inside the goal line to get the Saints within one score with 40 seconds to play, but Baltimores Kamar Aiken recovered the onside kick to seal the win. Joe Morgan raced 67 yards down the left sideline off a reverse on just the Saints second play from scrimmage. Two plays later, Mark Ingram appeared to fumble the ball just short of the goal line, but it was ruled that he was down by contact upon further review. The Ravens defense still made a stop, however, as a leaping Ingram was stuffed short of the end zone on fourth down. Forsett bounced off a defender and took off for a 38-yard gain on Baltimores first play and Steve Smith moved the chains after hauling in a 14-yard pass on third down. After a face mask penalty moved the Ravens deep into their opponents territory, Smith caught Flaccos pass while falling just in bounds past cornerback Brian Dixon for an early lead. Morgans 62-yard catch placed the Saints deep in Ravens territory and two plays later, Graham tied the game with a 10-yard grab with 3:26 to play in the first quarter. On the ensuing drive, Steve Smith made another big play, this time a 40-yard grab to place Baltimore at the New Orleans 8, but Kyle Juszczyk fumbled the ball at the goal line. New Orleans next drive stalled at their own 26 and the Ravens marched 69 yards down the field in four plays. Forsett found the back of the end zone on a 13-yard scamper to give the Ravens a 14-7 lead with 9:08 left in the first half to cap a drive that was highlighted by Torrey Smiths 40-yard catch. Kenny Stills jumped up in the air and ripped the ball out of cornerback Danny Gorrers hands for a 33-yard catch down to the 5-yard line. Graham bobbled a pass in the end zone on third down as the visitors settled for a 20- yard Graham field goal. After a Baltimore punt, New Orleans got the ball back with just under two minutes left in the first half. Marques Colston caught a deep pass over the middle for a 19-yard pickup before grabbing a pass in between two defenders for a 26-yard score and a 17-14 lead heading into the break. For nearly a quarter-century, the Eskimos have played in Calgary on Labour Day with the rematch just four days later in Edmonton. Since 1989, the lone exception to that schedule was in 1992. You can catch all the action starting at 7pm et/4pm pt on TSN1, TSN3, TSN4, TSN5 and TSN GO. Calgary (8-1) and Edmonton (7-2) get one more days rest than usual this year after the Stampeders 28-13 win Monday at McMahon Stadium. Its not a lot, but a little more time to repair bodies and prepare brains for the second game that always feels like a marathon for players on both sides. "This is going to be a four-quarter game," Stampeder linebacker Juwan Simpson predicted before the team departed for the Alberta capital. "If we feel in any way shape, form or fashion this game is going to be like it was the other day, weve got another thing coming. All these second games have almost come down to the wire. "A lot of guys will be aching, but the game, the adrenaline gets you through it. But mentally, its here we go, same team, same thing. You have to keep yourself in the meeting rooms, keep yourself getting healthy and not just take it for granted because youre playing the same team." The Stampeders are 2-0 against Edmonton in 2014 and clinched the season series with Mondays victory. Calgary hasnt lost Game 2 of the September home-and-home since 2006 and owns a 10-game winning streak against Edmonton. This is Edmontons last chance in the regular season to get a win over their southern rival because the Alberta clubs dont meet again in the second half of the schedule. "The good thing is youre playing the same opponent so youre not going to put in a million new defences and offences or anything on special teams," Eskimos head coach Chris Jones told reporters in Edmonton. "Youve got to go back in and look at what we did well and try to utlilize it and add a thing or two and thats it." Eskimos quarterback Matt Nichols completed 18 of 30 pass attempts for 208 yards Monday, but Edmonton didnt score an offensive touchdown. Calgarys defence hasnt given up one in 29 consecutive drives by opposing offences. An injured thumb on Mike Reillys throwing hand kept the Esks quarterback out of Mondays game and ended his run of consecutive CFL starts at 26.dddddddddddd He didnt throw the ball much in practices this week, which indicates another start for Nichols. "Its always a tough week when you only have a few days off in between games, but at the same time you dont have to do the extra game planning," Nichols said after Mondays loss. CFL all-star receiver Fred Stamps returns to Edmontons lineup after sitting out four games with a lower-body injury. Grant Shaw, who had field goals from 13 and 44 yards Monday, has been put on Edmontons injured list. Hometown product Hugh ONeill will handle kicking duties Saturday. Calgarys Edwin Harrison slides in at right tackle for Dan Federkeil, who left Mondays game with an injury. Stampeder receiver Joe West will not play because hell be in Texas for his brothers funeral. Despite missing six games with concussion symptoms in July and August, Calgary running back Jon Cornish isnt out of contention to win a third straight league rushing title. But with nine games remaining, hell need more performances like the 163 yards he had Monday. The New Westminster, B.C., native is 253 yards behind current CFL leader Nic Grigsby of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The extra day of rest could especially benefit Cornish on Saturday, but he didnt mind the short turnarounds of previous years. "Ive always liked playing on Fridays," Cornish said. "I always enjoyed the sort of epicness of that quick turnaround. "I know a lot of people werent super-fond of playing more than one football game in a week, but I liked that. Its a challenge to rise to." Edmonton was 1-8 at the halfway point last season. Their six-win swing matches the CFLs best mid-season improvement previously achieved twice by Hamilton (1960, 1997) and once by Toronto (1995). Those teams played in the Grey Cup those years, so the Esks have reason to be optimistic despite their winless record against Calgary this season. "This is probably the most confident team Ive ever been on," Eskimos linebacker J.C. Sherritt said. "Like we said after we took that loss, we were just happy we were going to play them again right now so we can line up again against them." ' ' '
