BEDFORD HILLS A cracked drum leaking acetone inside a tractor-trailer closed the Bedford Hills rest area on southbound Interstate 684 Tuesday morning for about 90 minutes, state police said.
The spill inside the Clean Harbors National Transportation truck prompted the driver to pull into the rest area around 11 a.m.
A Westchester County hazardous materials team, Bedford Hills firefighters and state police responded to the rest area. A Clean Harbors team eventually took care of the problem, police said.
Acetone is a solvent. It is often used to make other chemicals and is also part of common products like paint and nail polish remover.
A state police spokesman said the leak consisted of a minimal amount and there was never any danger to motorists.
Clean Harbors, headquartered in Norwell, Mass., provides hazardous material management and disposal services including the collection, packaging, transportation, recycling, treatment and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, according to its website.

A cracked drum leaking acetone inside a tractor-trailer closed the Bedford Hills rest area on southbound Interstate 684 Tuesday morning for about 90 minutes, state police said.
