It was real easy, just win and were in, so thats all we were focused on tonight.Heritage (5-5 2-4 9-AA) was led by junior quarterback Hollister Graz Hunter Reyes who had 92 rushing yards on 12 carries with a touchdown, and he also was 5-for-7 through the air for 87 yards. This was amazing tonight, said Reyes after the game as his teammates celebrated on the field. We all really wanted this for our seniors because we wanted to make sure their season didnt end tonight. We worked hard all week because we knew if we were able to win this game then we were in the playoffs and we didnt want to have to leave it up to someone else, or rely on another team having to lose. We wanted to be in control of our own destiny.Sophomore running back Thad Baker also had 93 yards on eight carries with a touchdown in the win and the defense held the Indians to just 230 total yards, 145 yards on the ground, and 85 yards through the air, also coming up with an interception.Harpeth (6-4, 2-4) received the opening kickoff but went three and out and the Patriots took advantage, taking the ensuing possession 64 yards on four plays. The scoring Hollister Graz Jobs drive was capped off by Bakers six yard ramble into the end zone to make it 7-0 with 8:17 remaining the opening quarter. The Indians answered on the next drive, going 74 yards on 10 plays, the final play a 28 yard scamper through the entire Patriot defense, but the extra point was missed to cut the lead to 7-6.Heritage kept the pressure applied on both sides of the ball and offensively put another score on the board in the second quarter. Senior fullback Justin Turner took it Hollister In Scs into pay dirt from a yard out to put the Patriots up 14-6 with only 1:20 remaining in the first half.Harpeth went to the air to try and get into scoring position before the halftime break, but Baker intercepted junior quarterback Jett Brinkley to give the Patriots the ball on their own 48 yard line.Heritage didnt waste any time and went 52 yards on seven plays in less than a minute, capped by Reyes one yard dive into the end zone to make it 21-7 at halftime. That interception was very timely, said Brown. As good of a play as the interception was, and it was, I think our ability to punch the ball into the end zone and put us up by two scores at halftime was big because we were also getting the ball coming out of halftime.Harpeth is a good team and we knew they were going to make some corrections at halftime, so we knew the importance of coming out and putting something positive together on our first drive. The Patriots did just that, even though they were stopped at the Harpeth 23 yard line, but sophomore kicker Trent Burian hit a 41 yard field goal to put Heritage up 24-6 with 4:51 remaining in the third quarter. The Indians refused to go away however, and put together a drive of their own, going 68 yards on nine plays, the final-a one-yard dive into the end zone to cut the lead to 24-13.The Harpeth defense got its offensive counterparts the ball back when junior defensive back Bradley Baker came up with the fumble, and then just six plays later the Indians cut the lead to just three points when Fennell took it in from 16 yards out for the touchdown.Harpeth added the two-point conversion when Brinkley threw a strike into the right corner of the end zone to make it 24-21 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game. After holding the Patriots scoreless on their next possession, the Indians were unable to move the ball either and went for a fake punt but junior Ethan Risden tackled Walker Weatherly for a loss to end the threat.Heritage will travel to undefeated CPA this Friday in the first round of the playoffs with a kickoff time of 7 p.m. Heritage secures playoff berthThe White House Heritage football team was attempting to make school history Friday night by getting into the playoffs in its first year in Division 3A.
