Freddie Kwesiga, the bank's representative in Zambia said during the launch of a 2013 development effectiveness review report on Zambia done by the bank said the country has continued adhering to high levels of growth averaging 6.5 percent per annum.


The official said the bank, which has provided more than 1.4 billion U.S. dollars to support Zambia's development agenda since 1971, will continue working with the southern African nation to push the development agenda forward.


Minister of Finance Alexander Chikwanda said during the same occasion that the report provides a platform for even more determined endeavors to extend the frontiers of the country's development with the objective of ending poverty.


The Zambian minister said the government had prioritized job creation by ensuring that there was enough investment in key sectors of the economy.


This is the first time that the report has been done for Zambia and it covers data up to 2012. The report will provide an overview of the country's development progress.


In July 2012, the World Bank reclassified Zambia as a lower middle-income country due to foreign aid-driven interventions and surging of copper in the last few decades.

BRISBANE, Australia, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Sixteen people were rescued after a luxury yacht caught fire and sank off Australia's far north Queensland coast, local media reported on Thursday.
