TORONTO -- Toronto Raptors president and general manager Masai Ujiri continued to remake the clubs roster Monday with the addition of guard D.J. Augustin. Augustin, whose one-year deal was first reported last week, adds another defensive player to the cupboard for head coach Dwane Casey. The 25-year-old, who was selected ninth overall at the 2008 NBA draft by the Charlotte Bobcats, spent last year with the Indiana Pacers. "He was one of the young, experienced point guards we thought could come and bring something to our program," Ujiri said after Augustin met the media for the first time at Air Canada Centre. "I like the experience. Hes been a starting point guard in the NBA. (He) struggled at times a little bit last year. Good outside shooter for the most part and he can run a team." In 358 career games with Indiana and Charlotte, Augustin has averaged 9.6 points and 4.0 assists in 24.5 minutes. The New Orleans natives numbers were down in 2012-13 (4.7 points, 2.2 assists, 16.1 minutes in 76 games) while coming off the bench for the Pacers, who made it to the Eastern Conference final. "Winning solves a lot of problems. With the Pacers we won a lot games so the atmosphere was a lot better and guys worked hard," Augustin said. "We took it serious. In Charlotte it was a little different, with losing you get down. "Hopefully here we can get going on the right track and guys can have that winning atmosphere." Augustin, who is expected to back up starting point guard Kyle Lowry with the Raptors, sees potential in Toronto. "Theres a group of young guys who are pretty good and have a chance to be very good -- hard workers," he said. "Thats the type of person I am and I want to come in and work hard with those guys and try and change things here in Toronto and make it to the playoffs." Augustin plays in the summer against Lowry and expects there to be chemistry with his new teammate. "(Lowry) is a tough guard," he said. "Hes going to help me on defence, just being tough and being vocal out there and I think we can help each other a lot." The University of Texas product joins former Pacers teammate Tyler Hansbrough, who signed a two-year deal with the Raptors earlier this month. Ujiri has had a busy off-season since taking over basketball duties from the departed Bryan Colangelo. His biggest move came when he traded under-performing centre Andrea Bargnani to the New York Knicks for Steve Novak, Marcus Camby, swingman Quentin Richardson and a couple of draft picks. The club also recently signed guard Dwight Buycks, averaged a team-best 18.0 points a game last season for Gravelines in the French Pro A league in 2012-13. Augustin, meanwhile, says he has learned a lot in his five seasons in the NBA. "Its a business. The NBA is a business but youve got to represent yourself well," he said. "Its a job and youve got to take every day seriously and go practise hard and play hard and things will work out." Broncos Jerseys China . CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox are at least open to the idea of a rebuild and are not interested in trading for short-term rental players to spark a struggling team, general manager Rick Hahn said.Hahn acknowledged the White Sox were mired in mediocrity with a 46-48 record heading into Thursday nights game against the Detroit Tigers. They had dropped six of seven and were seven games out of the second wild card -- and 10 behind AL Central leader Cleveland. With the Aug. 1 non-waiver trade deadline approaching, Hahn said the White Sox have to stay open-minded. But they are ruling out adding short-term rental players who could only help the team this year. They are, however, at least willing to consider just about any other action, even a major rebuild. And Hahn said that includes chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. An overhaul would be a huge step for an organization that has tried to contend through trades and free agency in recent years. But with one playoff appearance since the 2005 championship season, Hahn acknowledged the plan hasnt paid off the way the White Sox envisioned. Were not where we want to be, Hahn said. Weve spent a fair amount of time focusing on the here-now for the last few years and it hasnt paid off as handsomelly as we hoped.ddddddddddddSo we have to stay open-minded.If they went the rebuild route, ace Chris Sale and fellow All-Star pitcher Jose Quintana would no doubt command high prices. But with team options, the White Sox have Sale under control through 2019 and Quintana through 2020.The notion of lets sell off everything because its not working might be a little extreme, especially if you expect to be able to put yourself in position to have a perennial quality product in the window of control for some of these guys, Hahn said.Hahn also offered updates on several injured players. He said pitcher Carlos Rodon (wrist) is progressing nicely and will make a minor-league rehab start before returning.Catcher Alex Avila (hamstring) suffered a setback in a rehab game with Triple-A Charlotte and likely wont be activated for another month.Right-hander Zach Putnam (right elbow) also had a setback and will likely need to have bone spurs removed from his elbow. Hahn said outfielder Austin Jackson, recovering from a torn meniscus in his left knee, will start ramping up non-impact activity in the coming days. ' ' '
