BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres have placed recently acquired left wing Linus Omark on waivers as part of a series of moves made before the start of the NHLs Olympic break. Omark had two assists in 13 games with the Sabres. The 2007 fourth-round draft pick was regarded a disappointment after Buffalo gave up a conditional sixth-round draft pick in a trade with Edmonton on Dec. 19. Overall, he has eight goals and 32 points in 79 career games. Should he clear waivers, Omark would have an opportunity to develop with the Sabres AHL affiliate in Rochester. The Sabres also demoted two rookies, centre Phil Varone and defenceman Chad Ruhwedel, to Rochester. The moves were announced Friday, a day after Buffalo closed its pre-Olympic break with a 3-2 loss at Ottawa. Wholesale Cleveland Browns Jerseys . PETERSBURG, Fla. Olkinuora made 16 saves in the first period, and 30 overall, for his first professional shutout, as the IceCaps defeated Hamilton Bulldogs 3-0 Saturday in American Hockey League action. The goaltender deflected attention from his own accomplishment, and instead complimented his teammates on their recent form. "It feels good," said Olkinuora of his shutout. "But more importantly, it feels good to win again. Its a lot of fun. "The guys have found a way to play effectively and be tough to play. Weve been making smart decisions with the puck, and its fun to play behind these guys." Kael Mouillerat, Carl Klingberg and Eric ODell scored for the IceCaps (15-10-3). Dustin Tokarski stopped 36 shots for the Bulldogs (12-12-3) . The Bulldogs got the better of an entertaining first period in which both teams enjoyed quality scoring chances. A giveaway at the defensive blue line by Hamilton winger Nick Tarnasky gave Jerome Samson room to operate along the right wing. The St. Johns forward moved in to the hashmarks and released a rising wrist shot that beat Tokarski but rang off his near post. Just over ten minutes into the first period, another Tarnasky giveaway sent the IceCaps into the Bulldogs zone on a 2-on-1 break, but Tokarski was alert in sliding to his left and snaring the one-time shot with his glove. Tarnasky found himself in the spotlight once again with 4:17 to play in the first period, when he enjoyed Hamiltons best opportunity to score the games first goal. A cross-ice pass found him posted just outside Olkinuoras crease at the right post, but Tarnasky couldnt corral the puck, and the goaltender recovered and sprawled to deny the chance. Olkinuora enjoyed the heavy workload in the opening period, and argued that it helped him to find his rhythm on Saturday. "You could say that it gets you into the game," he said. "Every game is different, but I do enjoy games where you can get into the action pretty early and often. Obviously, I dont tell the guys that." The IceCaps enjjoyed a lengthy two-man advantage early in the second period, as Maxime Macenauer was whistled for slashing at 2:43 and Mike Blunden followed with a delay of game infraction 22 seconds later.dddddddddddd Tokarski was sharp in denying St. Johns on multiple occasions, as Hamilton held the visitors off the scoreboard over the course of the 5-on-3. There was little for the goaltender to do, however, when the IceCaps opened the scoring at 7:48 of the second period. Samsons initial slap shot was kicked aside by Tokarski, but fell to Mouillerat in the low slot, and he circled the fallen goaltender and slid a shot inside the near post as Tokarski dove unsuccessfully to meet it. The IceCaps made it 2-0 at 14:35 of the second, when Carl Klingberg converted his second breakaway opportunity of the game. Latching onto a loose puck in the neutral zone, the St. Johns forward shifted from his backhand to his forehand side and slid the puck past Tokarski. Hamilton coach Sylvain Lefebvre bemoaned his teams inability to gain momentum in the second period, even after successfully killing the two-man advantage. "We played well in the first, but in the second, penalties killed us," he said. "Usually when you kill a 5-on-3, you have good chances to win the game. We just couldnt get the momentum, and when you take too many penalties, it taxes some of the players and others sit on the bench and wait." St. Johns struck early in the third period to extend its lead to 3-0 and put the game out of reach. The initial point shot by Brenden Kichton was saved by Tokarski, but the rebound bounced to ODell, who easily slotted the puck into the open net at 3:54. Olkinuora made an exceptional save to preserve his shutout bid with 3:21 to play, picking Martin St. Pierres close-range wrist shot out of the air with his glove. The goaltender pointed to improved breakouts and decision-making as the factors that improved his teams play in the final two periods. "I think our guys made an adjustment and a push," said Olkinuora. "We had over 20 shots in the second period and its all because we found a way to go out of our zone cleaner, and we made smarter decisions." Travelling to Boston for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final, they remembered what it was like when their son Dave and the Chicago Blackhawks won in 2010. Even Bollands wife Julia had a feeling it would happen again Monday night at TD Garden. She told everyone on the flight from Chicago her prediction. But none of them could have imagined it would happen this way: Bolland scoring the game-winner with just under a minute left, the second goal in 17 seconds to stun the Bruins. And while the 27-year-old winger from Toronto seemed too stunned amid the Cup celebration to revel in his hero status, Julia — six months pregnant — couldnt contain her emotions in the moment. "At first I didnt know that he scored," she said. "And then when I found out I started crying and fell to the ground. My mother-in-laws like, Get up, youre going to hurt the baby. It was crazy. It was so fast." Drew Bolland was worried too, but no harm was done. The Bollands beamed as they posed with the Cup. "Its like a dream," Drew Bolland said. "Its one thing winning the Stanley Cup back three years ago, but to come back here, you start thinking, Hey, itd be great if he won the Stanley Cup again. But to score the winning goal just blows your mind away." Bolland made one of the more thrilling endings in Cup final historry sound routine.dddddddddddd Bryan Bickell tied the score with 1:16 left, and defenceman Johnny Oduyas shot found its way to Bolland on the doorstep. "The puck went back to the D, he shot it," Bolland said. "All I knew was it was sitting in front of me, so I had to tap it in." Theres plenty of history between Bickell and Bolland, who played together in the Greater Toronto Hockey League from the ages of 12 to 15. "They were friends all through hockey, so that was unbelievable," Drew Bolland said. "A GTHL guy scores the tying goal, and David scores the winning goal." Bolland, almost stoically called it a "big feeling" to score the Cup-winning goal. "We all dream about scoring that Stanley Cup winner to hoist the Cup, so check that one off the bucket list," he said. In four years, Bolland will have his name on the Stanley Cup twice. A tattoo on his wrist marks the 2010 title, and hell get another for 2013 "somewhere." With Julia due to give birth to the couples first child in three months, the Bolland family has plenty to celebrate. They already know its a girl, and her name will be Lincoln. "Maybe Stanley," Carol-Ann joked. "Not for a girl," Julia said, still smiling. Thats not even necessary, as Bollands goal made for an unforgettable Stanley Cup story to tell his daughter one day. Theyre tied at 80 points with the Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals but are fourth among those teams for the Eastern Conferences two wild-card spots because theyve played the most games (74). Of course that also means their eight remaining are the fewest among those in the race and theres not much time to figure out slow starts, a central problem during this losing skid. Against the Blues, the Leafs scored first for the first time since March 10, but they also gave up a season-high 23 shots in the opening period and were hemmed in their zone often. "We just couldnt get out of our zone," winger Joffrey Lupul said. "They put a lot of pressure on us, and we couldnt handle it." Coach Randy Carlyle noticed some of the pressure that has been building on his team early on Tuesday night. "Theres a lot of tenseness in our players," he said after the 5-3 loss. "The first three puck recoveries, we just slapped the puck away. We didnt pick up the puck and skate with it at all. Thats showing signs of being nervous, tense, (a lack of) confidence not wanting to make a mistake, which led to more offensive-zone time (for St. Louis)." The listless Leafs led for less than five minutes, then trailed from the time David Backes scored with 32.3 seconds left in the first period until the end of the game. It was only after ex-Toronto forward Alex Steen scored to make it 4-1 that the Leafs showed some fire and launched a comeback bid that fell short. At this point, players are even self-aware that the transformation is happening once they fall behind. "It seems like when we get down, then were playing with no fear, were letting some of our skill take over, our defencemen are rushing the puck out of the zone and making plays," Lupul said. "Theres something to be said about being down and not having that fear anymore, but realistically weve got to play like that right from the start. Its more of a psychological thing than it is a physical thing." If its a mental problem, defenceman Carl Gunnarsson doesnt have the answer. "Weve been talking about it," he said. "I dont know whats going on there, but weve got to figure out a way here to change it." Changing it and managing to play as well as they did in the bulk of the third period against the Blues would give the Leafs a good chance of coming out of this tailspin and making the playoffs. Gunnarsson and goaltender Jonathan Bernier agreed that, although thats a challenge, the end result could be scary for opponents. "If we play like we did in the third period for 60 minutes, I dont think theres a lot of teams that can beat us," Gunnarsson said. Of course if the Leafs make mistakes like they did in the first half of the game and throughout this losing streak, they can lose to any team left on the schedule. They visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday before returning home to face the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday and also have games against the Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators to close out the season. Rangers D Ryan McDonagh led the way with a goal and three assists for the Blueshirts and, oh, thats not any kind of sore spot for the Canadiens. Remember, he was a first-round pick of the Canadiens in 2007 who was dealt to the Rangers as part of the deal to get (ahem) Scott Gomez. McDonagh only had three points, total, through the first two rounds, so the first four-point game of his 298-game (regular season and playoffs) career was a great start for the Rangers. In a 7-2 rout, there were plenty of big contributors for the Rangers. The line of Chris Kreider, Derek Stepan and Rick Nash each had one goal and an assist. Yes, Nash scored his first goal in 15 playoff games this year, and Kreider, the rookie power forward was a tough match-up for the Canadiens. Nash and Kreider can be tough matchups if theyre playing well and, for various reasons, havent been major factors through the first couple rounds. Could be big trouble for Montreal if thats going to change now. Martin St. Louis and Derek Stepan each had a goal and an assist and Dominic Moore chipped in a couple of assists, while Mats Zuccarello delivered a goal and two assists. Zuccarello is now the Rangers leading scorer in the playoffs, with 11 points (4 G, 7 A) in 15 games, one ahead of St. Louis and Brad Richhards.dddddddddddd Richards scored a goal and registered a game-high 10 shot attempts. The Canadiens were getting outplayed at 5-on-5, but the Rangers also had seven of the games first eight power plays, with Montreal getting a couple of power plays in the last three-and-a-half minutes, long after the outcome was decided. Coming off a series against Boston in which the Canadiens were obviously invested emotionally, they certainly appeared flat in Game One against the Rangers. G Carey Price, who has been great in the playoffs, was pulled between the second and third periods after allowing four goals on 20 shots. Only twice, in 70 (regular season plus playoff) games this season, did Price allow at least four goals with 16 or fewer saves. Though his production was inconsequential, Canadiens C Lars Eller had a goal and an assist and hes the top scoring Montreal forward in the playoffs with five goals and 11 points in a dozen games. One negative for the Rangers was that C Derick Brassard left the game early with an apparent back injury. Hes considered day-to-day. If the Canadiens are to take a positive from this debacle of a game, it is that it only counts as one loss. Forget Game One, come back fresh for Game Two because, really, what other option do they have? The Argentine manager said he had reached "an agreement to cease being the coach" after Barcelona was held to 1-1 by new champion Atletico Madrid on Saturday. Martino was hired last summer and tasked with continuing Barcelonas winning era started by predecessor Pep Guardiola in 2008, but Barcelona finished the season without a major trophy for the first time since the 2007-08 season. Former Barcelona player Luis Enrique is expected to replace Martino, who left with one year left on his contract. "I am deeply sorry that I couldnt help my players reach the clubs goals that it has been reaching year after year," said Martino, who refused to take questions from the press after the match. "I am sure (my players) will have more successes (in the future). I dont have anything else to say except to thank them. We admired these players from afar, we admired them from up close, and I am sure I will continue admiring them because they will get back to winning again." Martiino alluded for weeks to a possible exit, saying his future had already been decided regardless of how the league ended after Barcelonas exit from the Champions League to Atletico, and loss in the Copa del Rey final to Real Madrid.dddddddddddd On Saturday, he said the decision was taken "independently of the game" that limited him to a Spanish Supercup as his only trophy in one season in charge of the Catalan club. "We thank Tata because he took over during a difficult season," Barcelona sports director Andoni Zubizarreta said. "Even so, we made the final of the Copa del Rey and were within five minutes of winning the league title." Speculation has grown that Enrique will be named to take Martinos place after he stepped down as Celta Vigo coach following a meeting with Barcelona last week. Barcelona needed to win the match at Camp Nou to win the league, but Diego Simeones Atletico emerged undefeated from its sixth meeting with Barcelona this season. Martinos goodbye came after goalkeeper Victor Valdes and captain Carles Puyol said their farewells this week. Other players will likely join them with the club set to overhaul its squad. Seattle has taken nine of its last 10 games overall since a loss at St. Louis (6-10) in Week 7, a game that the Rams returned a punt for a touchdown and also converted a gutsy fourth-down play in the closing minutes with punter Johnny Hekker. We surely witnessed how difficult the NFC West is the last month and a half, said Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. It just shows you how difficult it is. It was a very tough game today. They played great on defense. Russell Wilson threw for 239 yards with an interception and Marshawn Lynch rushed for a touchdown in the win. Rams quarterback Shaun Hill committed a costly interception on the first play of the fourth quarter in Seattle territory. On 2nd-and-19 from the 34, Hill tossed the ball right into the arms of defensive tackle Jordan Hill. Kevin Norwood then picked up a first down five plays later on a 31-yard catch to the St. Louis 9. That set up Lynchs TD run that gave the hosts their first lead of the game, 13-6 with 12:07 left. Seattles defense really put the pressure on with another interception on St. Louis next series. Close to midfield, Hill threw a short pass to Lance Kendricks, who had the ball knocked free into the air by Bobby Wagner, and Bruce Irvin picked it off and returned it 49 yards for a score. It was really exciting to see the big playss on defense today, Carroll added.dddddddddddd Benjamin Cunningham looked to cut the deficit to a one-score game, but Earl Thomas jarred the ball loose and out of the end zone as Cunningham reached for the goal line, giving Seattle the ball back with just under six minutes to play. We gave it our best shot, the problem is we just didnt finish, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. We had some really good things happen out there today, we just couldnt finish it. It was St. Louis defense that impressed in the first half. After suffering two straight losses entering the game on the heels of consecutive shutouts, the Rams defensive unit got back to work in this one. Greg Zuerlein provided all the scoring with a 33-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 52-yard boot in the second to give the Rams a 6-0 lead at the break. Seattle was driving after Zuerleins initial field goal, but Luke Willson was a yard short of a first down on 4th-and-5 from the St. Louis 35. Then a Lynch fumble set up Zuerleins second kick. Late in the half, Wilson attempted to orchestrate a late scoring drive. However, Pro Bowl rookie Aaron Donald picked up a big sack near midfield when the Seahawks were in range for a long field goal. Seattle marched right down the field out of the locker room and Steven Hauschka, coming off the first 0-for-3 kicking day of his career last week against Arizona, knocked down a 42-yarder to cut the deficit in half. Hauschka kicked a 45-yard field goal on the Seahawks ensuing possession to tie the game. Game Notes Seattle had not been shutout in the first half since Oct. 23, 2011 at Cleveland ... "Seth is one of those guys that just comes along every once in a while, when you look at the big defencemen in the league like the Charas and the Prongers," said Dan Marr, director of NHL Central Scouting. "Hes made for todays game under todays rules." "Theres not too many players available that read the game and see the ice and can make the play. And he can deliver, offensively and defensively." Other prospects worth watching are defenceman Darnell Nurse, whom Marr compares to Shea Weber, and goalie Zachary Fucale, touted as being cool as ice under pressure. The Avs willingness to discuss their preference with the top pick has drawn a variety of responses. Poile calls it "rather refreshing." "Good on them that they know what they do," he said. Tallon said it makes sense given the character of Sakic, Colorados executive vice-president of hockey operations, and coach Patrick Roy. "Theyre classy guys; theyre very honest guys. Theyre new, they want to have fun. Theyre invigorating, enthusiastic guys and thats the way they are," said Tallon. Ottawa GM Bryan Murray sounded a little more skeptical. "I dont know whether theyre following through with what they said totally or its just easier for them to say this is what were doing and go about doing it." There is no shortage of family ties to this draft. Forward Max Domi, son of Tie, has drawn kudos for his offensive skills. But teams can also get nostalgic and pick up a Bertuzzi, Brodeur, Comrie, LaFontaine, Mantha, Quenneville, Rychel, Subban, or Tambellini. Steelers cornerback Cortez Allen returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger dashed through the snow for a 13-yard score in the third quarter. But a rarely seen illegal batting call nearly spoiled the Steelers night After the Steelers blocked the kick, a scramble ensued and the jostled ball ended up near the sideline, where Steelers defensive lineman Ziggy Hood poked it out of bounds. After conferring for a few minutes, the officials penalized Hood and gave possession to Green Bay, ruling the Steelers never controlled the ball after the block and that it never crossed the line of scrimmage of the Steelers 5. Safety Ryan Clark said he could have picked up the ball, but he was slowed after spraining his ankle in the game and tried to lateral the ball, but it squirted free and eventually got to Hood. "Its human error in this game," Clark said. "The guy didnt see it, he didnt have the opportunity to know if I had possession, so he made the call that he saw and thats part of football.
